Özgür Devrim Akçay

Drums and Percussion Family

He began playing the drums in various groups from the age of 15. In 1998, he was awarded a scholarship to Istanbul Bilgi University's Music Department. He studied drums with Can Kozlu and harmony and arrangement with Ali Perret. He played drums with the "Butch Morris Ensemble" until the year 2000. In 2004, he participated in the "Sound Journey Young Composers" concert organized by the Borusan Culture Center.

 

Between 2004 and 2007, he acted as an assistant actor, drummer, and music director in various plays staged by the "Istanbul State Theatres."

 

In the year 2000, he entered the "Yıldız Technical University Faculty of Art and Design Music and Performing Arts Program" and graduated in 2009.

 

In 2008, he founded the psychedelic-progressive rock band called "Kırkbinsinek" with his friends, where he still plays the drums.

 

He began his teaching career by giving private lessons and later taught drumming at BT Music House from 2008 to 2012. From 2009 to 2013, he worked as a manager and percussion coach at the "Music for Peace Foundation." In the 2014-2015 season, he led percussion workshops at the Soyaç Foundation, and from 2015 to 2017, he worked as a percussion teacher and rock orchestra conductor at Enka Schools. In 2018, he conducted percussion workshops as part of the Goethe Institut's "Flying Library" project and also worked as a drum teacher at Açı Schools. 

 

Since 2010, he has been teaching drumming and percussion at Jokerstore music lessons.

Özgür Devrim Akçay conducts rhythm-percussion workshops and drum lessons for both children and adults.
