Theory and Composition

Murat Opus is a composer with a diverse background in music. He began his musical journey with classical guitar studies and worked with prominent guitar artists and educators, including Savaş Çekirge, Ahmet Kanneci, and Ricardo Moyano. During this period, he focused on Baroque, Classical, and Modern Latin American guitar music.

 

After his classical guitar studies, he decided to pursue jazz music and started his undergraduate education in jazz composition. He had the opportunity to work with significant musicians in the world of jazz, such as Lawrence Butch Morris, Ricky Ford, Ali Perret, and Aydın Esen.

 

For his master's degree, he delved into contemporary composition techniques and jazz composition. He conducted his studies under the guidance of renowned Turkish composer Prof. İlhan Usmanbaş. During this period, he collaborated with international figures in the field, including Francesco Martinelli, Ricky Ford, and Hüseyin Alptekin, among others.

His master's thesis focused on "Live Conduction," a new movement in music that aims to create more flexible and independent spaces for composers and performers, emphasizing collaborative creation.

 

In addition to his academic pursuits, Murat Opus has been involved in various musical activities. He has taught at universities, collaborated with important figures in academia and the music industry, and contributed to the establishment of music faculties and departments.

 

He also hosted music programs on Açık Radyo, wrote articles on jazz history for Jazz Magazine, and participated in national projects related to music education with the Turkish Educational Volunteers Foundation.

 

Murat Opus continues to engage in music activities both nationally and internationally. He has collaborated with interdisciplinary artists from various countries, working on projects related to music, dance, cinema, photography, video art, and literature.

 

As a composer, Murat Opus has always been interested in experimental, progressive, and innovative approaches to music. He incorporates acoustic, electro-acoustic, electronic music, and avant-garde elements into his compositions, continuously exploring new artistic horizons. He established the "Rhythm and Mood Orchestra" to create projects focusing on electro-acoustic music and live conduction techniques, leading to long-term national and international performances. He also values the connection between music and other art disciplines, collaborating on joint projects in video art, theater, cinema, photography, and dance.
