Efe Büyükyanbolu

Theory, Guitar and Ensemble

His relationship with music began in his childhood years. At a young age, he tried to reproduce the melodies he heard on various instruments around him, such as the organ, melodica, flute, darbuka, and guitar, and soon began to create his own melodies and compositions.

His musical talent was noticed by his elementary school music teacher when he was 7-8 years old; he started practicing regularly with his first guitar, which was given to him as a gift at the age of 9, and soon after turned to taking electric guitar lessons.

During his high school years, he began producing music by forming jam sessions and improvisation groups with his friends. He continued performing on stage during his university years; playing electric guitar and bass guitar in various bands, forming his own cover band, and making arrangements for live music projects. During this period, he performed in various parts of Türkiye, mainly in Istanbul.

In 2021, under the artist name "ef by," he released the EP "Unlimited Anxiety," which blended IDM, hip-hop, and indie genres. During his final year of university, he formed the group Tribe, which combined hip-hop, psychedelic, and jazz music; this project helped him develop his skills in composition, improvisation, and the use of different musical genres together. These two projects were the first tangible results of his tendency to combine different genres in his own musical language.

He graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University's Mechanical Engineering department in 2022 and worked in the industry for a while as a mechanical engineer and musician. After graduation, he focused on music education and entered a professional development process. During this period, he studied jazz piano with Onur Avdan, bass guitar and rhythm with Raci Pişmişoğlu, and jazz, modal, and contemporary music harmony with Murat Opus and Eugene Ali Perret. He also received jazz ensemble training with Meriç Demirkol and provided piano accompaniment in Melis Sökmen's vocal lessons.

His musical work focuses on jazz and contemporary harmony, harmonic analysis, modal music, improvisation, composition, arrangement, and music production. He currently continues his work composing and arranging for his own groups.
